Default Word documents corrupted?

When I tried to print a Word document recently, it printed the
document with Indexing codes visible, like this:

firm of Goodall and Turner{ XE "Goodall and Turner" }. He married
someone else, and had two legitimate children, William Goodall, who
died in 1833 at the age of 32, and Eleanor Goodall{ XE "Goodall,
Eleanor" }, who married George Farr{ XE "Farr, George" } at Tottenham
in 1818.

They are not visible on the screen when I give the print command, and
the index itself prints normally.

I thought it might be just one document, but it now seems to have
happened with all Word documents. I've opened these documents with
Word 97 and Word 2010 on a computer running Win XP and one running Win
7.

Has anyone else had this problem?

How can I get rid of the codes in the printed document?

I am not sure if this is your problem, but try this.

Open Word. Select the large Microsoft button in the upper-left corner
of the window. Select Word Options at the bottom of the pull-down menu.

On the left side of the Word Options window, select Display. Do you
have a checkmark in the checkbox for Print Hidden Text? If so, clear it
(remove the checkmark). Try printing.

If you still have the problem or if the checkbox was NOT checked, select
Advanced on the left side of the Word Options window. Scroll down to
Print. I only have a checkmark in the last checkbox in the Print
section. Immdiately below the Print section, I have NO checkmarks in
either of the checkboxes in the "When printing this document" section;
for this, you have to reset any checkmarks for each Word document
individually.

Donald Trump claims everyone likes him. Does that
include his ex-wives? How about the students who
discovered that their education at Trump University
was worthless?

In Word 2007, there is a large round button in the upper-left corner of
the window. The button shows the Microsoft four-color icon. Click on
that button to get the Word Options window.

In Word 2013, access to options might have been moved. I do not have
Office 2013, so I cannot tell how to get the options in that version.

Make sure your print settings looks something like in this pictu

Word 2016 Print Options

I am using Word 2016 but the settings are identical to Word 2013.
