Default Blue Screen and Event Viewer Help

My Win 7 PC has blue screened three time in the last two weeks.
I boot it back and it seems ok and runs for several days.

It offers to check the web for solutions but never returns with
anything, not even that it can't find a solution.

Suggestions please.

I opened event viewer but not sure where to concentrate.
There are so many Information entries that scanning for a Warning or
Critical is difficult in so many categories.

How can I filter event viewer to only show a type of entry like Critical?

Thank you.

Is there a error code on the blue screen? If it reboots without giving
you enough time to read the code, right click on Computer, System
Protection/Advanced/ uncheck "Automatically reboot" under System
Failure. The next time it blue screens, you can read and then Google the
error code. It's probably hardware.

Were you formerly known as "Old Guy"?

In event viewer, expand custom views and examine the "Administrative
Events" Focus on errors and critical stop errors.

You should find a CSE that contains the error code displayed on the
BSOD. You can post that here for further help or you can do a google
search on the error code and begin the investigation on your own. The
most frequent causes of BSOD's are memory faults and video driver
faults, in my personal experience.

You can use something like NirSoft's Blue Screen View
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html or WhoCrashed
http://www.resplendence.com/downloads to analyze your dumps. Both are
free, and can give you some insight as to what may be the cause.

When you open Event Viewer, you'll almost always go directly to the Windows
Logs section. With your BSOD issues, you'll further navigate to the System
section. So now you're in Event Viewer, Windows Logs, System.

Over on the right side of the screen, in the Actions window, there's an item
called Filter Current Log. Select that item, select what you want to see,
then click OK. There you go.

There is a STOP error decoder, here.

http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm

But that doesn't mean the problem will be easy to fix.

The distribution of errors is important too.
If you've had three errors, and each STOP code
is radically different, it could be bad RAM as
a root cause. Whereas, if the exact same error
comes up all three times, then there could be
a software problem as the root cause. So not
only must you record the first stop error,
but you must collect all subsequent stop
errors, to see if they're the same or not.
