Default Win-10 laptop to join a Win7 homegroup

Also posted to the Win 10 group

Just purchased one of those cute/light 2G/32G windows 10 laptops. After
making it look aas much as possible like a win7 system (IE11 and Windows
Live Mail 2012) began the issue of connecting the new Win 10 laptop to
the existing Win7 homegroup consisting of 2 laptops and a desktop. The
existing Win7 homegroup has always worked well for transferring files,
printing etc. All 4 computers can see each other on my local network.
When attempting to get the Win 10 laptop to join, it can see the
homegroup and suggets getting the homegroup password from the specific
desktop that originally started it. And it knows the name. Entering
the homegroup password into the Win 10 laptop goes well with the Win 10
laptop appearing to think about it from several minutes follwed by the
Win 10 laptop coming back and saying the the homegroup is no longer
there. When it is. They can all see each other and the 3 Win7 machines
are still happy. All things are shared and none of the machines are
passworded.

Thanks for any assistance...
