sync local e-mail

I use Vista Mail as client for my e-mail and nntp accounts on 2 Windows 7
computers.
This works fine for all on line messages, but I also have several maps with
archived messages which are stored locally.
Is there an easy way to keep those in sync on both computers?

(I have been experimenting by copying the VM data files from one to the
other system, but this results in access security problems)

Only for e-mail *if* you use IMAP on both hosts so they stay in sync
with other and with the mail server.

For NNTP, you'll have to copy the message store from one host to
another. Never used Vista's Mail client to know if it separates its
e-mail message store from its NNTP message store to make it easy to just
copy over the files for the NNTP message store.

No mention what network is between your hosts. The above is for
synchronizing out to an Internet server and back to all other hosts. If
your hosts can connect in your intranetwork, you could use file sharing
in both hosts. Or you copy the maps onto a network share accessible to
both hosts. Rather than you do the synchronizing, you could use 3rd
party software (e.g., Syncback Free) to keep folders in sync between the
two hosts or both of them in sync with a network drive.

No mention of virtual machines before this paragraph but then you didn't
describe that setup or your network setup, either.

Then IMAP will work to keep multiple clients (same or different hosts)
in sync with each other.

Don't know if Vista Mail works with Microsoft's Exchange servers but
that would also require you be using Hotmail/Live/Outlook.com as your
e-mail service. If Vista Mail can use the Exchange protocol and if
Hotmail/Live/Outlook.com is your e-mail provider then using Exchange
will keep multiple clients (same or different hosts) in sync, too.

If you are using POP, configure Vista Mail to *not* delete new e-mails
after it retrieves them from the server. The normal POP routine is to
issue RETR(ieve) and DEL(ete) commands. If you configure the client to
not delete after retrieve, the e-mail stays on the server. Then another
POP client can see it there and retrieve a copy, too. Only until one of
your POP clients does a delete on the e-mail will it disappear from the
server.
