Task Scheduler: Auto Update PW Changes?
I just scheduled a task to run daily and the process prompted me for my
Password - which I change every month or so. The Question: Can I forget about this task and assume it's copy of my PW will automagically be updated when I do my monthly PW change? Or do I need to make a note to re-visit Windows Scheduler every month? -- Pete Cresswell |

If the password was required only for you to set the schedule up, then it was required by the Task Scheduler, and it should be satisfied that you had the credentials to set the task up. Now the task is scheduled and you won't be interacting directly with the scheduler any more until you want to make changes. At that time the scheduler will ask you for your credentials when they are needed to grant you access to the scheduler. If I am wrong in my understanding, then let's hope there will soon be a correction or two coming from those who disagree with me :-) -- Gene E. Bloch (Stumbling Bloch) |

Task Scheduler: Auto Update PW Changes?
Run the task using "System" as the account, and you won't have to worry
about re-visiting it. On 5/21/2014 1:29 PM, (PeteCresswell) wrote: I just scheduled a task to run daily and the process prompted me for my Password - which I change every month or so. If this is a secure environment (like an AD domain) where typically there are policies like 3 bad password attempts and the account is locked out you run the risk of locking out your account. Best to either use the built in system account for scheduled tasks (if they only interact locally) or create a specific task account and give that account just the rights it needs to perform the task and use that account for execution of the task. |
