Default Setting to DISable upgrades

Something in the W7 registry I think.

Has to do with upgrades or updates.

Months ago I set it to NO or NEVER, and have never been bothered
since.

You don't have to use Regedit, when there is this.

That just detects and voids the GWX update. That's not what the OP
insinuated although the OP never actually did ask a question.

Without regard to just the GWX update and addressing ALL Windows updates
and assuming the OP wanted to disable them other than configuring the AU
service to "notify only", disabling Windows updates means disabling the
BITS and AUserv services. You can do that manually using service.msc or
sc.exe or use a batch script to issue the disables via sc.exe. Of
course, later you will have to reenable the BITS and AUserv services
when you do want to retrieve and install Windows updates. However, if
you blindly install every update offered then there is no point in
disabling updates and setting WU to "notify only". If you don't review
each update to determine if it applies to you and that you want it then
either leave updates permanently disabled and live with the level of
[lacking] security in the current instance of Windows or blindly accept
them all which means disabling/enabling updates and "notify only" are
rendered void for protection.

Considering the question, my guess is the OP won't know how to use any
of those methods (other than setting AU to "notify only" which is
probably what the OP meant by "set 'it' to No or Never"). Not sure if
the OP posted to submit a diary entry to record here for posterity or if
the OP actually had a question.
