Recently, in two different novels I've read, part
of the plot revolves around something the authors
called "deep web" or "dark web".
Presumably this is some portion of the internet
via which all manners of evil can be carried out.
Is there such a thing?

Be warned: no matter what reply you give, Pfsszxt, a known troll, will

I don't know who you are, or what hole you crawled out of,
but to the best of my recollection I've never had any dealings with you
at all.

Well, its understandable that - at your age - your memory isn't is good
as it was. That's all you're going to get out of me; I'm done wasting my
time on you.

So after being very rude on 2016-05-12,
you are again very rude now to the same person

To Norman you say you have no intention of being rude,
but here again you prove otherwise.

I have no idea who you are or why you're on my case. To the best of my
knowledge, I've never heard of, or from, you before!

Your age is no excuse of telling someone to crawl back in the hole you
say he has come out.
Maybe you should crawl back under the stone you came from?:

You are (in)famous for your endless thread about you wanting to have a
Thunderbird email address.

Not so -- I said such a thing was impossible, and still contend that
is true.
It originated about a printer I bought not able to use the "scan to
e-mail" feature because it wouldn't accept AOL as an answer. So I asked
for a info on getting an e-mail client it would use (other than the
costly "Outlook"). I was (posting from Thunderbird) told I was using one.

Many, many people tried to explain to you that you wanted something that
did not exist, but you did not listen at all (did not want to understand
?) and kept most stubbornly insisting that you wanted an impossible
email address.

HUH???

No wonder that your behaviour makes people think that you are trolling.

(you have a tendency for multiple answers to the same message)

Also not true.

I'll try _once_ more.

The "scan to email" function of your printer driver would work with most
email _software_, and with any email _address_. It would certainly work
with an AOL email _address_, used with suitable email _software_.
Unfortunately, it wouldn't work with the AOL email _software_. In order
to use the scan-to-email function, you'd have to set up, _as your
*default* email software_, one which the printer driver would work with.
You would still use your AOL email _address_ with that _software_.

[You may have been given bad advice by the printer manufacturer, who may
have said it'd only work with Outlook. It'd work with _almost_ any
normal email software - just not the AOL one.]

People noticed you were using Thunderbird for _news_, so suggested you
used that as the email _software_ (since it was something you were
already used to using, only for news). You would set up Thunderbird to
use your AOL email _address_. (Various people found you web pages that
told you how to set up Thunderbird with an AOL address.)

Many, many people tried to explain to you that you wanted something that
did not exist, but you did not listen at all (did not want to understand
?) and kept most stubbornly insisting that you wanted an impossible
email address.

HUH???

You seemed to think we were telling you to get a "Thunderbird email
address", which we weren't. (The only way you could get one of those was
if you worked for a water company in one part of the USA, or an
artificial estate agent in another part.) We were telling you to set up
Thunderbird _with your AOL address_. If you wanted to use that "scan to
email" function of your printer driver, that is.

No wonder that your behaviour makes people think that you are trolling.

I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt.

You two should just get a room! Better yet, just ignore each other and
put an end to this BS.

Maybe you should practice what you preach. ;-o [OT] is added to the
Subject so a kill filter is easily created (as I now will demonstrate).
