When using the Windows feature of periodically cycling thru images for the desktop backgound,
is there a way to have it show the filename of the photo, like in the lower left (or right) corner? -- croy |

This site at least shows what registry entry has the name. http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/de...enu-windows-7/ HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\General\WallpaperSource On Windows 10, it's a double-byte string at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\TranscodedImageCache You could always use Sysinternals Regjump and have Regjump open Regedit to that particular item. If you know what folder the images exist in, you could edit the photos and add the filename to each photo. Which is messy. And destructive. You could always keep a second copy of the photos, in unedited form, elsewhere. Paul |

There doesn't seem to be, other than by modifying the pictures as others have suggested. It seems a retrograde step: I've just checked on my 7 machine, and I can't see it, either there, or in the "Photos" screensaver. By contrast, in the "My Pictures Slideshow" screensaver on this XP machine (not sure if that came as part of XP - I think so - or was one I added), there _is_ a show filenames tickbox. (XP doesn't have a wallpaper cycler built-in, though one is available: search for Panorama32. That runs fine under 7 too - I have sometimes installed it on 7 machines as I find it easier to select images for it than the built-in one. Sadly, I've just looked and I don't think it has a filename show option either - though it's easy to see what the current image is, you just double-click on its tray icon and see which file has a tick against it [I don't think the built-in one has anything like that].) -- J. Might look at http://awc.smurphy.co.uk/ I bought this way back in 2011 for a few $ but it looks free now. Not sure if it shows filenames though. Don't have the memory or time to verify. I'll leave that up to you. Sorry. |

Very versatile - does everything you could think of (certainly, lots I hadn't, including different images if you have multiple monitors; I was also amused that it offers "Worst Fit" as well as "Best Fit") for a wallpaper changer. But: "You can evaluate AWC for 28 days free of charge. To continue to use it after that you must register the software for the low price of £5.95." It does specifically mention "Display the file name on the image" among the options. -- J. P. Gilliver. UMRA: 1960/1985 MB++G()AL-IS-Ch++(p)Ar@T+H+Sh0!:`)DNAf If something works, thank an engineer.
