Default warning when I sign on

when i sign on to messenger after entering windows xp, I get a message
telling me something like "you have been signed off messanger because
you are loggen on in another computer". What's up? What computer?

Also, I am supposed to be logged in when I enter windows (although I
canot find where that is right now) and it was thus till the previous
problem showed up- now I have to log in manually.

Help welcome...

1. Means you either have another profile running your user
name/password/passport or on another system.
2. In Messenger/Tools/Options/Preferences.

Thanks.
1. How do I find out?
2. Yes, I see. It's set to run when I enter windows.

A response to 1 might allow me to fix the problem?

1. Do you have a computer at work that you left on when you left?
2. Did you ever "log on" to your account using a friends computer?
3. Do any of your "friends" know your e-mail address and password? (you can
guess the implications here)? If they are signed on, in your stead, they can
access your e-mail and have great fun, at your expense, using messenger!
This will also prevent you from logging on. This happened to my son a couple
of years back.

Default warning when I sign on

Thanks, Richard...
1. Not anymore. Not since I have this account.
2. Yes. Also in internet cafes abroad early in the year.
3. Nobody knows my password. I can log on, getting the warning I indicated.

Is there a way to find out if I am logged on somewhere, and/or force myself off?

Cheers,

Leo

If you have any local friends who you message to, call them up and ask if
they see you on-line.

If your account has been hijacked, the only way is to open a new account.
Then tell all your contacts to block the old log-on address. Otherwise they
may be constantly bothered by someone they don't know.

Very good question, Leo. Troubleshooting PassPort may have the answer for
you. In the meantime, check what is listed here, it will list your
accounts. However, even though this isn't the issue on your current
profile, you will at least know where to check, if you have access
regularly to other systems.

Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2. Advanced/Manage
Passwords.

Tip:

Add Control Userpasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

You can also check he Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MessengerServ ice\ListCache\.NET
Messenger Service. In the right pane, Identity Name

Tip:

Disable Storage of .Net Passwords (Line 223) Right hand side
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Good luck!
