This is a dumb idea, but is it possible Microsoft Student 2006 is
considered a part of Microsoft Office, and consequently controlled
from somewhere other than Add/Remove ? Does Office have a repair
or configuration tool ?

The second thing I'd consider doing, is looking for an install folder,
and see where the stuff is hiding. Maybe you'll get some hints there.
