Can't get proper setup for 5.1 speakers
I've been working on this and searching all morning. I'm trying to set up
5.1-speaker surround sound on my computer. Everything is working perfectly in the Realtek HD Audio driver (I have 6 speakers set up and the test tones work in all the right places). I set the advanced properties in Control Panel -- Sound to 5.1 Channel Surround, but when I try to adjust the speaker volume, I only have the option of adjusting 2 speakers. The related problem is: when I play itunes or Windows Media player, the sound comes out of all speakers -- it's only supposed to come out of the FR and FL. I tried updating the Realtek driver but that didn't help. My computer: MSI K9N6SGM-V motherboard Realtek ALC883 on-board audio Realtek HD Audio Manager v 5.10.0.5605 |

Can't get proper setup for 5.1 speakers

I set the advanced properties in Control Panel -- Sound to 5.1 Channel Surround, but when I try to adjust the speaker volume, I only have the option of adjusting 2 speakers. The volume faders for the other speakers need to be added to the playback mixer (open up the mixer (double click on the speaker icon in the system tray) and select the 'Options'menu and click 'properties'. You should now be able to select the missing faders). The related problem is: when I play itunes or Windows Media player, the sound comes out of all speakers -- it's only supposed to come out of the FR and FL. The Reltek driver allows the selection of a variety of speaker combinations. If 5.1 speakers are selected and a stereo (2 channel) source is played, then the output is from all 5 speakers - the rear mirrors the front and the center gives sound common to left and right. A true 5.1 surround source should play correctly. If you really want a 2 channel source to come from only the 2 front speakers, then you need to change the speaker set up to 2.0 speakers. There should be a Realtek icon in the system tray (looks a bit like a hoover brush) that opens up a control panel - it's one of the options. I tried updating the Realtek driver but that didn't help.
