Help installing .NET framework
Ok, I will *not* try to tinker with that hard drive. Deprive me of some
fun!!! :-( Thanks for the advice from everyone! Steve Don MI wrote: "Steven C. Liu" wrote in message .. . Thanks Peter. I will attempt to recover data from the dying HDD as you wrote, but it is difficult since for the past 24+ hours that disk is more dead than alive. That is, I can't get the computer to recognize it when it is going "click-click-click". :-( But, I will keep on trying until it works. I need to recover my PST file first and foremost! What do you all think of my taking apart the HDD and tinkering with it? Any words of wisdom? Steve Opening your hard drive will take you from bad to disaster. Suggest that you not even try. Frequently applications, such as your Dell software, that require .NET Framework will include .NET Framework in a folder on the installation CD. Don |

Help installing .NET framework
Thanks. Yes, I have already ordered a new HD and am making sure that I
have backups from now on. My problem is that I have data on there that I really would like to recover. Not a lot, but still important data. I am contemplating taking the drive apart and seeing if I can fix that clicking problem. Steve Nak wrote: Any suggestions? Get a new hard drive! The clicking noises sound a bit on the dubious side. You could just try to copy as much to an external source as you possibly can and then replace the drive, but there isn't masses that you can do with a drive that is "physically" damaged, which is what is suggested with a drive that is making strange sounds. Help installing .NET framework
Hi,
Start/All Programs/Windows Update, Let windows scan for the update. after installed all the critcial update, click the other XP update, you can find the Microsoft Net Framework version 1.1 is there. To save the data on the dying Hdd, switch off the PC, disconnect the AC power cord. Open the chassis and then disconnect the dying Hdd. Jumper the Hdd as slave and then connect it to the other PC as slave then copy all the data from it to the other Hdd. As you said the Hdd is dying, I would suggest you to copy the files from the dying Hdd instead of using the move command to move the files. Always copy the most important files first. If you have Norton Ghost or other similar imaging software, you can clone the entire dying Hdd to other Hdd. -- Peter "Steven C. Liu" wrote: My home PC, a DELL 2400 running XP Pro SP1, is starting to have its boot disk fail. In an effort to reload my OS, etc., onto a new disk, I encountered a problem loading the Dell Support software. It tells me that I need to first install .NET framework by going to windowsupdate.com, which is non-existent. I looked around support.microsoft.com and couldn't find how to obtain the .NET framework. Also, does anyone have any ideas on how I can recover the data from my dying disk? I forget the manufacturer of the disk, but it's an 80Gig-er IDE drive that now makes a clicking noise when powered. Every once in a rare while, it will work briefly. Any suggestions? TIA, Steve |
