Client software files?
Where are the client software files located in Windows 8? I installed
MS Office and find that I can open MS Word by double clicking on one of the old Word files I imported from my old computer but I can't locate the MSWord.exe file. I would like to pin it to the taskbar but I can't do this unles I can locate the .exe file...wherever it is hidden. Gordon |

I found it in the Office 12 folder under the Microsoft Office folder. I just didn't look deeply enough before. I was looking rfor MSWORD.EXE and didn't go on down the list to WINWORD.EXE Gordon |

Not necessary to create an additional shortcut from the executable.
An installed Office application resides on the Modern UI Start Screen (MUI) and/or the All Apps screen. The similar results can be achieved by editing the Properties of the respective Office app MUI file location shortcut by entering the appropriate key strokes. The end result will function on both Modern UI and Desktop. -- ....winston msft mvp "Ken Blake" wrote in message ... I've about gotten this figured out but I have to scroll or whaterver it's called to move the START screen to the left so I can see those icons that are at the right edge. The START screen is about 50% wider than my physical screen and won't show all these icons. And, I'm still accustomed from the olden times, to being able to click CtrlAltW to start MS Word, and other similar shortcuts for all my regularly used programs. But, I guess I can adapt to the START screen icon means for starting Word and other such programs. It will just take a while for my brain to make the transition. Gordon |

The usual options for removing a tile from the Start Screen is unpinning it by rt clicking the item on the Start Screen or All Apps menu. (i.e. no Delete options). Deletion would be done by the tile's properties 'Open File Location' and deletion of the shortcut. My version of Win8 are clean installs though an upgrade from Win7 might not be controlling factor especially if prior versions of Windows and Office were always upgrade versions. - When was the last time Windows and Office were clean installed ? Since that's the only Microsoft Office application I use very much, I must have removed the others. Yes, I'm using Start8, but I don't think that's an issue regarding what tiles are there. I must have removed them, and just didn't remember doing so. By the way, I just checked on my wife's machine and she also has no Microsoft Office tiles except for Outlook. But she *never* uses any other Microsoft Office applications. And she uses Classic Shell, rather than Start8. I must have removed the Microsoft Office tiles from her machine too, but I don't remember doing it on her's either. Think of All Apps as a pseudo folder that gathers information and shows application shortcuts that exist elsewhere Removing an item from the All Apps screen requires one to physically delete the shortcut from the actual location the shortcut resides (similar to deleting a shortcut from the Win7 Start Menu) As mentioned, the tiles can be removed (unpinned) from the Start Screen but if not present in the All Apps screen then - The shortcuts in the usual locations (usually Start Menu locations in your profile and/or ProgramsData) from the Win7 system were not linked to be shown in All Apps - the shortcuts were previously removed/deleted from the Win7 Start Menu - the shortcuts were deleted in Win8 (from their original location) thus also removed/no longer present on the All Apps screen - the shortcuts were only present on the Quick Launch Taskbar in Win7 but not the Win7 Start Menu - Murphy caused it ....w |
