Default W10 Taskbar Question

What are the symbols on the right in the taskbar called? I want to
research a question about them, but want to use the right name
(label) for them. Is there a web site that shows them, and what
symbols are shown and what they mean?
Thanks

System tray icons

Thank you. Now then-
On the right, amongst some 10 'system tray icons' is one for my
internet connection. Looks like a monitor. When I double click it, I
get a little window showing that I have a single network which is
connected. That is as it should be. Sometimes. tho, that 'system
tray icon' will change to what looks like a little world globe
(WIFI?). When I then double click on it, I show a second network
that is 'not connected'. Worse, I then can no longer send/receive
emails. I reboot, and it goes away for a while agaln. Any idea what
is happening?

with a small crossed-out circle in the corner? That means it has no*
internet connection

yes - and it doesn't.

When I then double click on it, I show a second network
that is 'not connected'.

Any clue what the second network is?

What if you right click the network icon in the tray and open network
and internet settings?

Have to wait until it happens again.

[*] or strictly it can't detect that it has got internet connectivity,
sometimes it gets confused.

You can see a lot more about your network situation after you get your
'cue' from the system tray/ notification area/ icons by using Menu/
Settings/ Network & Internet and using its Status & Wifi & Ethernet
sections.

As someone else mentioned upthread, the shortcut to that area is to right
click on the Network icon in the System Tray and select "Open Network &
Internet Settings."

"ipconfig /all" from a Command Prompt can also be helpful, especially if it
comes to the point where text needs to be grabbed and posted so that other
folks can see what's going on. (Alternative to posting GUI screenshots.)

This AM it did. I see the following:
Adapter Options:
Ethernet Unidentified network
TAP NordVPN Windows Adapter
Ethernet 2 Network
Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller
Ethernet 3 Network cable unplugged
TAP Windows Adapter V9

Normally I see only the second. No idea about the other 2.
My PC is hard-wired to the router. I have no wireless card that I
know about. But maybe I shud take a look? I recall years ago that I
tried wireless and it was too slow. Hard-wired was faster as I
recall. Maybe I left a wireless PCI card in? Good golly!

emails work this AM tho - confused.

Thanks

Sharing options:
X Turn on network discovery
X Turn on file and printer sharing

Windows network diagnostic:
Problems found

I see:
We are having problems getting your tips. Check your network settings
and try again.

I saw nothing related.

Surely you can't have installed a VPN without knowing about it? That's
what the TAP adapters are for ...

I have been using Nordvpn for a long time. If it is behind my
anomaly, I never knew it. It is set to activate at boot - and is
supposed to stay on. I had never looked aa the tray icon since
everything seemed ok. Now I see only one network and I just looked
and Nordvpn was not connected anywhere for some reason. I connected
to Canada and the 3 networks reappeared. So Nordvpn is the culprit.
What is the third unidentified network?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TUN/TAP

TUN is used with routing.

TAP is used for creating a network bridge.

Uh, yeah, that'll make a difference :-)

Dumb me. I had not looked at this before until my tray icon changed
and my emailing quit. That has not happened again since my forum
inquiries on this started anyway.
