Default Windows 1909 update and Spybot S&D

I got brave yesterday and updated from 1803 to 1909 (8 hours to
finish).

So far everything seems to work mostly as before. I had to set
VirtualBox to open as administrator, reset folder view, etc.

Here is the first question: After the final reboot the update process
reported that Spybot S&D was "not compatible with this version of
Windows" and had been removed. However it was not removed. The icon
was there, and when I tried it, it seems to work just fine. Any
comments on this?

Second question: I see the little arrow is back on most of the desktop
icons. How do I remove this again?

I had been of the understanding that S&D was not compatible with W10 but
the site says that it is compatible, so I just installed it (V 2.7) and
it seems to be working OK. Quess WinUpdate just didn't know how to
handle S&D, suggest reinstalling it to be safe.

See

Or download and use Winaerotweaker at

But I recommend that you do not do this. The arrow serves a useful
purpose: identifying a shortcut and differentiating one from other types
of files. Get rid of the arrows and you run the risk of someday deleting
an important file, thinking it was just a shortcut.

Thanks, Ken. I have decided to follow your advice. Windows used to
prompt about deleting a file vs. a shortcut, but it appears that no
longer happens.

The arrow does annoy my somewhat OCD mind, however....

I had a program like that. PGP desktop always worked under Windows
10, but major upgrades to Windows 10 would refuse to install if PGP
was installed. I had to uninstall PGP, do the upgrade, and then
reinstall PGP. That worked every time, but I never figured out why. I
now use VeraCrypt instead of 10-year-old PGP, so the problem is
solved.
