Default xp styles have disappeared

help!

I came home yesterday and my windows xp styles have
disappeared. I have gone through every option I can find.
I have gone to display properties, appearance, and it
doesn't even give me xp as an option, only windows
classic style. There is just a black area where usually a
picture of what it should look like would be.

I have restored to a previous date twicewith no avail. It
is like the files that have to do with xp styles have
been corrupted or deleted.

Please help.

Tom,

Do the following. Click Start, Run and enter REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL Then
use Start, Run and and enter SERVICES.MSC Locate the Themes service.
Double click it and ensure that its set to Started and Automatic.
