Office Genuine Advantage

Hello,

I run Windows Pro XP and use 'Word 2002' (bundled). I starting having
trouble with copy/pasting into Word today and started getting a
'notification' that I need to download and install 'Office Genuine
Advantage'. I do not WANT to use any 'verification' software in order to use
'Word' and so starting searching for information concerning this download. I
found that this update isn't INTENDED for Word 02 and further more it wasn't
even intended to be RELEASED to the USA at this time! Needless to say I'm
pretty annoyed (putting it mildly) that I apparently can't use my software as
I have always been able to, all because of an update I not supposed to get.

I wanted to use live chat to resolve this problem but don't intend to PAY
for help eliminating a problem not even CAUSED by myself! So I'm hoping
someone here will be able to tell me how to proceed with this. I ran a search
in WINNT and apparently there's no update in there to have caused this to
happen. I've never downloaded or installed Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA)
and don't intend to. I never intend to use Vista either. But NOW I'm getting
this about Office Genuine Advantage. It's always something with MS. Here's a
paragraph I copied from another web page about MS 'mistakenly' sending OGA to
users in the USA. As you will see I'm not supposed to get this at ALL.
Oh....and any help will be MUCH appreciated in advance!

giant released update KB949810, also known as the Office Genuine Advantage
(OGA) Notifications application, through Windows Server Update Services
(WSUS). The update was meant to notify companies in Chile, Italy, Spain, and
Turkey whether or not their copies of Office XP, Office 2003, or Office 2007
were genuine. Microsoft has acknowledged that the release did not go as
planned: "but because of WSUS publication, it became available to WSUS
managed clients inside and outside of these intended countries."
The problem with the update in question, which was "marked critical for
WSUS," does not end with a mistaken worldwide release. Not only did the
update appear to be a patch for a security problem by being marked as
"critical", it did not always detect genuine software as genuine. As a
result, many computers with legally purchased software began to spit out
errors and productivity ground to a halt.]

Office settings and data. Uninstall Office. Reinstall it, and run the FAST
Wizard again to restore your settings.

When I opened 'files and settings transfer wizard' I'm told "the best way to
use this wizard for transferring files and settings is to use either a direct
cable connection or a network." I have neither. So what next?

That instruction doesn't really apply to what you are going to do with the
FAST Wizard. It can just as easily save the files to the same hard drive,
and restore them after the un-re install of Office.
