Default Failure configuring windows update, undoing changes

Hi,
Quite often I get the 'Failure configuring windows update, undoing
changes' message at boot up & this morning it happened twice one after
the other.
Anyone know what's happening & how to fix please
Using win 8.1

You might get a clue from looking at the update history, and if it
doesn't help you, reporting the failures listed might help someone here
(probably not me, but that's another issue) figure it out.

Open Windows Update and look at the update history.

Default Failure configuring windows update, undoing changes

This may be worth a try.

Repair Windows Update
1. Close all the open windows.
2. Click the Start Button, click "All programs", and click "Accessories".
3. Right-click on "Command Prompt” and click "Run as administrator".
4. In "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type in "net stop WuAuServ"
(without the quotes) and press Enter.

Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was
successfully stopped before we try to rename the folder. However, if it
fails, please let me know before performing any further steps and include
any error messages you may have received when it failed.

5. Click the Start Button, in the "Start Search" box, type in "%windir%"
(without the quotes) and press Enter.
6. In the opened folder, look for the folder named "SoftwareDistribution".
7. Right-click on the folder, select Rename and type
"SoftwareDistribution.old" (without the quotes) to rename this folder.
8. While still in the "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type the
command "net start WuAuServ" (without the quotes) in the opened window to
restart the Windows Updates service.

Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was
successfully started. However, if it failed, please let me know before
performing any further steps and include any error messages you may have
received when it failed.

For the Windows Media Center issue you can try the following step:

Install the Windows Defender Updates manually; it helps fix errors like
0x80240022. Check this link for details to download and Install Windows
Defender Updates:

Default Failure configuring windows update, undoing changes

Note:
Stopping WU services and renaming the Software Distribution folder
will allow the folder to be rebuilt (by design) on subsequent use of
Windows Update...but at a cost - The history of Windows Updates (View
Update History) will be cleared of content, thereafter new History will
be logged once later updates are installed via WU.

So have you checked your Windows Update history yet ?
Which update is failing ?
Google the KB number for details, because if you are
experiencing a failure, others likely have too.

....If Martin can't remember which update has bring the problem, he can uninstall
updates from last one till he finds the one is causing the problem. He can reset
Windows update and run Windows Update Troubleshoot also.
