Windows XP Start
Windows XP use to start straight to "Welcome Screen" and on to
Desktop and the start Menu had "Turn Off Computer" and "Log Off Owner" commands. Now I get first the "Password" dialogue box and after quite a bit of delay the Desktop and on the Start Menu "Log Off Owner..." and "Turn Off Computer.." is replaced by "Shut Down" How Can I avoid this and go back to earlier start? |

Open Control Panel, User Accounts, click the default user and change how the user logs on so a password isn't needed. Maybe that will help with the other changes too. Or, do a system Restore to a date before this change. A Malwarebytes scan might be in order too. The "Shut Down" might have a down arrow to the right of it. If so, click it and there should be other options, such as restart. -- Joe =o) |

It isn't whether a password is needed or not for a particular account. It's which logon UI you elect. - Control Panel - User Accounts - Click "Change the way users log on or off" - Select "Use the Welcome Screen". - Optionally choose to use Fast User Switching (FUS) mode. Not available unless the "friendly user interface" (Welcome Screen) is selected. While you might revert back to the Fisher-Price UI (so named due to use of bobblehead icons) that has the Welcome Screen and new Start menu, it won't work if you are now on a domain. The Fisher-Price UI is only available if you join a workgroup, not a domain. Companies use domains. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303594 |
