I AM the administrator, but can't access...
I am in a one computer, one user situation,XP Home ed. and my computer doesn't recognize me as the system administrator! Early on with this machine, I had the bugbear worm, and after cleaning out the files with Norton, I seem to remember recreating my user
account. Is it possible that I wiped out my administrator account then? I can't gain full access to a lot of files (an example, when I try to open temp files, all I get is folders and indexes, but no actual files). I CAN install and uninstall software, wh ich seems like an adminsitrator task. Anyone have any ideas? I've pasted two other postings that seem to be having related postings. A million thanks for any help! Leigh G By: Boxy (search by author) In: microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin -----Original Message----- When I try to change my internet options in IE, I get the message "Operation canceled due to restrictions on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." This message comes up when I am logged into the Administrator account! What the heck is going on? This just started today, or at least very recently. Every other user on the system, including the four limited users, can access this option, but I can't. Makes no sense. -- Marc. . G'day Marc how ya going, Sorry I don't have an answer to your question but I actually have a similar question/problem and would appreciate any feedback that you get. My problem is that I cannot activate 'Windows Automatic Updates'. I go to Control Panel then to System then click on the Auto Update tab but it does not let me check the box for 'Keep my computer up to date', that whole page is inactive, i can not select anything. I think I have the same problem as you, in that my system does not regonise me as the administrator, even though I am the only one who uses this computer. I am not part of a network or any group. I have only ever setup myself as a user of this computer so don't understand how I am not the administrator. Once again sorry I couldn't help you out with your original question, but it sort of sounds like we may have the same problem. I'm going to keep trying to find a solution so if you would like to send me your email address ,I will contact you straight away if I find out anything useful. Boxy |
