Default Problems with command promt /windows32/cmd.exe

Cmd.exe starts up almost every time I use a program

It also has me blocked out of Control Panel.
My system restore doesn't register. It only shows the current day. It seems
all prior restore points have either been deleted, taken over or hidden.

I ran McAfee anti-spyware with no results.

My computer once had MSBLAST when it hit thousands of other computers

Is this a new type of blaster-worm or trojan virus?

I have been searching around for a solution for a few hours now.

Any help would be good.

An antispyware program is not an antivirus program. Problems with
cmd.exe are usually indicative of virus infection. Scan with either
Sysclean (first link below) or Dave Lipman's Multi-AV (second link
below).

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware
http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm - Dave Lipman's Multi-AV

After your scan with one of these first-line antivirus tools if you do
not have a full-featured current version antivirus (one that is not
earlier than 2004 and for which the subscription is active), get an
antivirus installed, update its definitions, and do a thorough scan in
Safe Mode.

Default Problems with command promt /windows32/cmd.exe

Problem is I cannot start in Safe Mode
I am locked out of all Control Panel features.
I am locked out of my system restore.
Who knows what else?

I just don't know what to do next, since I have no control.

The command promt opens with just about every program in my program files.

Is this a new problem or an old problem?

Would it have anything to do with the new command promt commands?

Would it have anything to do with the 2 recent Decemeber Windows Security
updates?

Because I all updates.

What I really want to do is...whipe my hard drive but my windows XP disk is
only a
update and I don't have the original windows 98 disc anymore.

Default Problems with command promt /windows32/cmd.exe

Please see my comments inline:

Problem is I cannot start in Safe Mode

What happens when you try? To get into Safe Mode, repeatedly tap the F8
key as the computer is starting up. This will get you to the right
menu. Navigate using your Up arrow key; the mouse will not work here.

If you get error messages, quote the text. Be precise in describing what
happens when you try to get into Safe Mode.

I am locked out of all Control Panel features.
I am locked out of my system restore.
Who knows what else?

What does "locked out" mean? What happens?

I just don't know what to do next, since I have no control.

The command promt opens with just about every program in my program
files.

Is this a new problem or an old problem?

Only you can answer this. This is not normal Windows XP behavior if that
is what you are asking here.

Would it have anything to do with the new command promt commands?

I have no idea what you mean by this.

Would it have anything to do with the 2 recent Decemeber Windows
Security updates?

Very unlikely.

Because I all updates.

What I really want to do is...whipe my hard drive but my windows XP
disk is only a update and I don't have the original windows 98 disc
anymore.

If you are unable to run antivirus tools, your best course of action is
to take the machine to a professional computer repair shop and have
them fix it.

Good luck,

Malke

I can't imagine why you think that posting the contents of your entire
Windows directory would be helpful. It isn't. Follow the instructions I
gave you in my previous posts. If you can't manage them - and there is
absolutely no shame in admitting that - take the machine to a
professional.

Your recommedations were totally worthless, considering that the sites you
recommeded said to go into the control panel erase internet files, blah blah,
restart in safe mode......none of which I can do...not because I don't know
how, but because the virus has taken over all the things that are required
to fix teh problem.

Thanks for trying but I will wait for someone else to come along with more
knowledge on this subject.

Oregonthunder, you ignorant slut,

You really ought to learn to read before criticizing someone who is trying to
help you, especially someone like Malke, who has provided excellent advice to
many.

Malke suggested that you use Sysclean (from TrendMicro) or MultiAv (from David
Lipman) and NOT to " go into the control panel erase internet files, blah blah,
restart in safe mode."

Malke did make one mistake however. The link to Multi-AV is only the link to how
to use it, and not to the utility package itself. But of course, you never got
that far, did you.

If you're interested, Multi-AV is he

Default Problems with command promt /windows32/cmd.exe

I found Trojan Virus'

c:/WINDOWS/System32/f3Psavr.src
c/windows/clipg.exe

I didn't realize how much McAfee sucks. I used McAfee and it didn't find
anything.

I found these with a anti-spyware program called XoftSpy 4.21

hopefully removing them won't be hard. I will post if it works.

I removed several probmatic files, however I still have the same problem.

I restarted

It comes on when I start the computer, but I am not sure if it starts with
the start menu programs or if it could possibly be attached to the start menu
some how.

Any Suggestions?

Default Problems with command promt /windows32/cmd.exe

Okay here are the results for any future readers of this forum topic:

The XoftSpy 4.21 was better than McAfee, however it left 113 trojan files
hidden on my computer.

I downloaded AVG 7.1 Professional - Control Center Trial Version (30 days)
It was awesome and fixed all my problems.

-So if anybody has this problem try this program first. Make sure you get
the most recent updates for the program.

I guess I didn't need to send it to the shop after all!
