Default Verifying username and password in a vpn

when I try to connect from one xp pro machine through a linksys router on
both sides to another xp pro machine I get through the "connecting message"
right away then comes the "verifying username and password" which sits till
it times out how? Do I get it to authenticate

I assume you are using pptp so make sure that pptp pass through [GRE] is
enabled on the Linksys router and if it has SPI enabled try disabling that
also. On my old Linksys I had a similar problem if SPI was enabled and I
think Linksys abandoned SPI on that model in future firmware upgrades. For
pptp port 1723 TCP will need to be forwarded to the IP address of the
computer acting as the pptp VPN server in the router. --- Steve
