Can anyone tell me how to install a new font? I have downloaded the font
I want and saved it in c:/Windows/Fonts. I got as far as "Install new
font" in Control Panel. Then it shows a list to check and install from,
but I can't figure how to get the new font on this list. After I have
saved the new font, it does not show up on the list of fonts in Control
panel.

edcm,
In explorer, go into the fonts folder C:\WINDOWS\FONTS and on the
'File' menu choose 'Install New Font' then browse to the file location of
your new font is. Select it and click on [ok] to install.

Be sure to 'check mark' the box 'Copy to Fonts Folder' also.

Tim, Thanks for the info. but I must be missing something....I have
saved the new font and it shows up when I SEARCH, but it is not in the
list of fonts when I try to install it. Any other thoughts?

ps I liked your reply to Hamilton Beach...too bad no-one seems to
moderate this forum.

Thanks right back at you!

I'm sorry you're having trouble. As I remember, I had exactly the same
thing happen in Win'98. Plus, I'm sure I have experienced it in XP at some
time, too. It's a pity that I can't quite remember how I solved it, though.
I rather had hoped that you had got the procedure wrong, but, on reflection,
it was quite rotten of me to hope you were that thick!
Now it's my turn to be thick... All I can suggest is to try various ways
to try and make this dialogue 'see' the font files and to persist at it. I
can assure you that you DO have the right dialogue box for installing new
fonts, there's no other way (that I know of). Just stick at it, try copying
to the root of a different drive, etc, and re-point the dialogue at that.

Just don't give up without a fight.

Windoze OS is just pure 'quirky' at times.

Got it!!! Thanks for the help and encouragement. I tried saving to a
jump drive, CD-R and finally the good old a:/ drive (fortunately I
still have one),
then extracted it to the fonts file: voila! I think the problem had
something to do with compression.

I just copy all the fonts I want to the c:\windows\fonts folder and
the next time I boot all the new fonts are available for use.

I never copy fonts into the fonts folder.

Download, extract, install. It copies it to the folder for you. Then delete
the one you downloaded if you don't want that file anymore.
