You do not have access rights to Logical Disk Manager
I am getting the message "You do not have access rights to Logical Disk
Manager" when trying to access the "Disk Management" extension in MMC. I am running XP Professional SP1 on a standalone PC. I am logged on as an administrator and the Logical Disk Manager service is running. Looking with 'Event Viewer' under 'System' I see messages that the Logical Disk Manager Administrator Service was : (1) successfully sent a start control, (2) entered the running state, and (3) entered the stopped state. These appear in quick succession. I can't see any other diagnostic information relating to my failed attempt to access "Disk Management". I have searched through "User Rights Assignment" under the "Local Policies" branch of "Security Settings" but cannot see anything that seems likely to be causing the problem. Please help me, I'm desperate ! |

Correction to the correction
I thought I would add some more specific instructions for XP users on
Q264910. The Microsoft Article is limited to 2000 and the instructions don't jive with XP. 1. On the toolbar, click START, click RUN, and then type: "dcomcnfg". (no quotes) 2. Click "Component Services" 3. Double click "Computers" in the Right hand task pane 4. Right-click on "My Computer", select "Properties" 5. Select "Default Properties" tab 6. Change the "Default Authentication Level" to "Connect" Note: On at least one system I experienced this on, the setting was already set to "Connect", and I changed it back to "default" and it allowed me to enter the Disk Manager. I didn't see any repercussions from this. Tony Berry wrote: Sorry, the fix is to change the authentication level from 'Default' to 'Connect', not the other way round. ArticleID=24812 I cannot find any reference to this problem in the context of XP. -----Original Message----- OK, I found the answer myself before anybody could help me. See Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q264910 "Access to Disk Manager is Denied". The suggested fix (of changing the DCOM default authentication level from 'Connect' to 'Default') works for XP Pro as well as for 2000. -----Original Message----- I am getting the message "You do not have access rights to Logical Disk Manager" when trying to access the "Disk Management" extension in MMC.
