Default DSL problems

For the past 3 weeks (since I installed the critical
updates), intermittently my connection to the internet
drops. I am still receiving the signal at the dsl modem
and my DSL provider has checked all my connections and
even sent a new modem. The fix is I have to re-boot the
pc or release/renew my ip address. My DSL worked excellent
for 2 years until I installed the updates. Is any one
else having problems?

I do have a bit similar problems although I don't know if it is due to
the updates. i did them.
my connection drops, even if the icon says that i am connected.
last night i left the pc running emule and this morning i had funny
message like "the app or dll
crogfiles\commonfiles\symantecshared\djsburn.dll is not a valid image"

the start menu\program was EMPTY ???
the dsl connection was unconfigured ???? no more response to the click
on the shortcut, no more username/pw/IP number ?????????

randomly, when i leave the pc running the connection drops and no way
to restart unless i reboot. this last night was worst, i lost the
connection config. maybe because i did a windows update last night and
did not reboot.
this morning after reboot and reconfigure the modem, everything went ok
after that. for how long?
weirdo weirdo weirdo
i consider the solution to switch to linux for all internet related
activity. mandrake is a quite friendly OS. if adobe could release some
linux versions i would be 100% under linux.

i have a connexant Accessrunner dsl usb modem
my pcspecs are : P4 at 2.4 on GIGABYTE 8PE667Ultra + 1GB DDRam333 + 20
+ 40 + 2x80 at 7200rpm + ATI Radeon 8500/128mb + Sony TRV 320 camcorder
