Getting signed off without knowing it

This has been a problem for me ever since the Microsoft
update to version 4.7. Everything was working good until
that first update after XP was released. There is no fix
for it because I've been searching and researching and
asking questions for over 7 months. It even happens with
MSN Messenger also. I've tried them both, but for some
strange reason Trillian this does not happen with
Trillian. Maybe the new version of Windows Messenger
that is in beta will fix all this stuff. File transfers,
etc. I sure hope so!!

I have been having this problem for months where I sign
on to Messenger first thing in the morning, but then
without my knowledge I am disconnected - BUT I do not
know that I've been disconnected and the little green
pawn icon is still showing at the bottom of my screen
with no red circle or X across it.
