Seriously lacking in support as time goes on. Claws mail might do if
you like that kind of client.

Not likely. Mozilla will probably spin it off like they did SeaMkonkey
into a Mozilla project. SM gets regular updates and there's no reason
to think the same won't be true of TB.

Mozilla is apparently looking for a new home for Thunderbird.

And FWIW, Softmaker Office Professional now includes their version of
Thunderbird. Not sure what it looks like there. But I hope they've
fixed a lot of problems with the HTML editor.

If they stop supporting it, we'll be left to rely on software like
Outlook which has terrible e-mail encryption support as well as awful
plug-ins or outdated software like Claws Mail. We can always end up
using Mail in Windows 10 which is good if you demand absolutely
nothing out of an e-mail client.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I hardly see the need for a mail
reader on my PC these days. It's been a long time my mail is staying "in
the cloud". Once in while I download my mail via IMAP with Thunderbird,
as sort of a local backup, but I haven't been actively using a mail
reader in years. Long time ago I used to use The Bat!, which was pretty
good, but then I turned to web mail.

If Mozilla stops supporting Thunderbird, my main concern would be
finding an alternative *news* reader.

And I am a traditional email user. I guess youngsters just rely on
whatsapp and suchlike.

I've been using Outlook 2003 for years and it did all I needed. When I
upgraded to Windows 10, it killed Outlook 2003. I can still received
and read emails but cannot send a new one. I cannot activate the
Office 2003 suite even though it was activated under Windows 7.
Automatic activation says I have too many installations so cannot add
another one (I actually have no working installations). Telephone
support is unavailable for this product so I am stuck.

I started using the mail that came with Windows 10, but then found out
that the programming is incomplete. It is not possible to add new
folders. Help says that ability is coming soon, whatever that means.

At this point, I intend to set up Gmail to send and receive all my
mail accounts and be finished with this.

I had the same issue with Outlook 2010 after upgrading to Windows 10.
Running sfc /scannow fixed it.

That's good to hear. It's the power of free software I guess.
