Default krnl386.exe ?-- just curious

Hello,
I have been reading a bit and I came across these files --
krnl386.exe and kernel32.dll in my WINDOWS\system32 directory.Can you please
tell me what they do. *Are they the windows kernel ( combined together)*
?.I'm just curious. I wont be messing with it so please dont take the
trouble of warning me. Please tell me if should be asking this on some other
group.

Those are the core system files necessary to run Windows XP.=20
Leave them alone unless you wish to reformat and reinstall
XP from scratch.

Default krnl386.exe ?-- just curious

Hi, in Windows XP the main kernel is hosted in ntoskrnl.exe, but it also has
other components that are spread acroos files. The most important of these
are ntkrnlpa.exe, hal.dll, win32ksys and ntdll.dll.

krnl386.exe is not actually the kernel, but it is a component that allows
older 16-bit programs to access kernel services. kernel32.dll is for 32-bit
apps to access kernel functions.
