Default Mail Issues

I've been using Outlook 2003 for years and it did all I needed. When I
upgraded to Windows 10, it killed Outlook 2003. I can still received
and read emails but cannot send a new one. I cannot activate the
Office 2003 suite even though it was activated under Windows 7.
Automatic activation says I have too many installations so cannot add
another one (I actually have no working installations). Telephone
support is unavailable for this product so I am stuck.

I started using the mail that came with Windows 10, but then found out
that the programming is incomplete. It is not possible to add new
folders. Help says that ability is coming soon, whatever that means.

At this point, I intend to set up Gmail to send and receive all my
mail accounts and be finished with this.

You could install something like Mozilla Thunderbird and use that.

I'll vouch for Thunderbird. It also allows users to easily set up
encryption for their mail accounts if every they choose to keep their
data away from the American government which claims to need it to
fight "terrorism" all the while being powerless to actually stop it.

snip the useless pgp sig and broken sig delimiter

1. Your sig delimiter is broken.
2. Do you really think that a pgp sig is necessary in a newsgroup.
3. Your almost ready to join my kill file.

You did not want help with Windows 10 or with Outlook 2003. This was a
rant. Feel better now after venting?

snip the useless pgp sig and broken sig delimiter

1. Your sig delimiter is broken.

The OpenPGP key is a good one but it was created by Unseen.is and
therefore doesn't play nice for some people. The reason I use OpenPGP
in general is because there is a loser in another newsgroup who has a
habit of stealing peoples' identities and posting as them. I insert it
as a way of authenticating the posts by signing them.

2. Do you really think that a pgp sig is necessary in a newsgroup.

It isn't, but the above mentions _why_ I'm using it.

3. Your almost ready to join my kill file.

I will try to keep on trucking despite the trauma.

It would have been better if they'd stopped "supporting" it earlier, so
people didn't need to disable so much of the later fiddling with it.

I'm curious as to which support Thunderbird is lacking in as time goes
on. For me, it works well.

I'm not complaining, it works fine, it's better for being left alone.

Time will tell what happens now Mozilla want to actively stop supporting
it, rather than passively stop ...

If they stop supporting it, we'll be left to rely on software like
Outlook which has terrible e-mail encryption support as well as awful
plug-ins or outdated software like Claws Mail. We can always end up
using Mail in Windows 10 which is good if you demand absolutely
nothing out of an e-mail client.

Not likely. Mozilla will probably spin it off like they did SeaMkonkey
into a Mozilla project. SM gets regular updates and there's no reason
to think the same won't be true of TB.

As I said up-thread, a spin-off doesn't mean end of support. SeaMonkey
was spun off in 2005 as a Mozilla Project and is still being actively
updated.

Mozilla still provides infrastructure support for the project and likely
would do the same for Thunderbird.

Mozilla is apparently looking for a new home for Thunderbird.

And FWIW, Softmaker Office Professional now includes their version of
Thunderbird. Not sure what it looks like there. But I hope they've
fixed a lot of problems with the HTML editor.
