Default Problem with Default Programs

When I try to make certain entries in Default Programs, some work but
others don't. The specific failures are in trying to use IZarc for .rar
and .zip files and Windows Font Viewer for .otf files. The system
appears to accept thes, but when I click on one of these files I get the
usual "what can I used to open this?" message. Also, the message
"always use this?" message is grayed out both in in Default Programs and
in the Open File box. I have tried to make these entries at least twenty
times each, each time apparently successfully--until I've tried to open
a file. Another note--these worked just fine in Vista. Any clues or hints?

Have you tried using the 'Associate a file type or protocol with a program' setting?
Control Panel Programs Default Programs Associate a file type...'
Select your file extension and then 'Change program'.

Thanks, Dave, but that's what I've been doing repeatedly. I've
discovered a new wrinkle, though. OTF fonts that were on my system
before conversion open just fine. Those in .rar files will not open
(don't have any ZIPs to try it on) although they would open just fine in
Vista.

I have Winrar to handle rar files, nothing else, just rars. I prefer to let
Windows handle zip files as it's already built in.
I'm afraid I have no experience of IZarc. Have you tried uninstalling and
re-installing ? Some programs like that have an option during the install
routine to assign file extensions.

I downloaded IZArc 4.0 Beta (I seldom use Betas) and everything now
works fine. Thanks for the help.
