We're referring to downloading a DVD.

You change the "en-ca" to match your locale, likely en-gb or so.

If the browser used is on a Win7/Win8/Win10 computer,
you get MediaCreationTool1903.exe . And it offers to
"make media for another computer", as well as do an install.

I like to collect media, so that if the install fails
for some reason, I'm not "throwing away" the download.

You have to decide whether you want x64 or x86 (32bit) media.
My installs here are normally x64.

When doing an Upgrade Install, naturally you use like-with-like.
So you get to install Win10 Pro 1903 x64, over Win10 Pro 1809 x64.

The DVD that MediaCreationTool1903 downloads, has seven OS flavors on it.

If you visit that same web page with a Linux computer or with
a Windows XP computer, they don't give you the MediaCreationTool,
but instead give a URL to an ISO image with *11* OSes on it,
and that ISO is too large for single-layer DVDs.

The MediaCreationTool download method is the best compromise
(when you refuse to wait for Windows Update to do it).

I got some sort of message like that too, and it
took a few moments to realize "it's just the USB stick issue".

Once I removed USB storage "I was cleared for takeoff".

I understand, as I have downloaded 1903 iso. I thought it would be
available as part of Windows update.

still a good idea to do a backup before you start the Upgrade.
A rollback can take an hour. Whereas restore from backup
takes ten minutes here. It's easier to just press the button,
and go get the Macrium CD and put back the original image
if it is rolling back.

Most of my Upgrade failures were seen on the Insider installs.

I have a macrium boot CD is that I made when I installed it on my
desktop. I am testing Win 10 pro 64 1809 on my laptop to see if the
Win update process really works flawlessly. When will 1903 become
available in Win update?

It's "loaded and ready for bear".

If there is no USB storage plugged in, you could
get it at any time. You might see a "prompt" in the
Windows Update window, announcing an Upgrade is available,
even if they don't use the most appropriate terminology.
(I've seen another message, besides the one below.)

The installer will become more aggressive, one month
before the end of the 1903 era.

Find a web page describing the current upgrade policy
(aggressiveness). Apparently they're not supposed to be
pushing the upgrade as hard this time. But I did manage
to get 1903 triggered on one setup here which was
running 1809. Check your Windows Update window and
see what it says.

Context is everything.

Now when that happened to mine, that threw me for
a few moments. But, it was on the machine with the
newest video card in it, so I knew the warning had
to be bull**** to start with. Then I went one down
in my list, which is "USB blocker" and that's what
it was. I pulled the USB key, and the block
went away on the next try.

They couldn't, of course, use the word "USB", because
that would make the puzzle "too easy".

I do something similar. I have a smaller HDD that I use Macrium to copy
the entire C:\ drive to. I also used EasyBCD to add a second boot option
to boot from that drive if needed.

[I also image the C:\ drive to a WD Passport just because I'm paranoid.]
