69.16.179.29, says... so I'm in no hurry to force the issue. I sure don't blame you! MS pestered me endlessly. I read somewhere recently that MS has been working to improve the installation process. Might that be a response to the number of people for whom it failed? MS boasts of gigantic numbers of Win 10 installations, but that also means that if 1 or 2 percent cannot upgrade it's a huge deal... |

In article , lid says... The disadvantage of doing it that way ("wait for Windows Update"), is that the Upgrade can come at an inconvenient time. That's why I tend to do them with local media and get the job done when I have time to do it. There are horror stories of folks waiting to board a flight when MS swooped in and took over. "Don't turn off your computer" is really bad advice at a moment like that! While the installer has "awesome" rollback capability, it's still a good idea to do a backup before you start the Upgrade. I cannot endorse that enough. Ditto. Something can go wrong even if it's not from MS. -- Quote of the Week: "It's kind of an insane case ... 6,000 ants dressed up as rice and robbed a Chinese restaurant." --Steven Wright Note: A fixed width font (Courier, Monospace, etc.) is required to see this signature correctly. /\___/\ Ant(Dude) @ http://aqfl.net & http://antfarm.home.dhs.org / / /\ /\ \ http://antfarm.ma.cx. When will 1903 become available in Win update? It's "loaded and ready for bear". If there is no USB storage plugged in, you could get it at any time. You might see a "prompt" in the Windows Update window, announcing an Upgrade is available, even if they don't use the most appropriate terminology. (I've seen another message, besides the one below.) The installer will become more aggressive, one month before the end of the 1903 era. Find a web page describing the current upgrade policy (aggressiveness). Apparently they're not supposed to be pushing the upgrade as hard this time. But I did manage to get 1903 triggered on one setup here which was running 1809. Check your Windows Update window and see what it says. https://images.idgesg.net/images/art...2885-large.jpg ( https://www.pcworld.com/article/3387...ease-date.html ) I don't like the PCWorld web pages, as they have a metric ton of Javascript advertising code on them and jam up the machine. I could barely type until I closed the browser... Paul Cheers Paul. |

It's pretty obvious after last weeks cluster of failures of Cloud, how much trust a business should put in the Internet. This won't improve until DNS and routing are fixed. And that's not ever going to happen... Unless there's an appropriate-sized "meltdown". Last week was an attempt at a demo from the cyber pest industry (nation state flavor). Paul |

While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, calling me an idiot I think your response was directed at 'Good Guy', but you replied to Ant's post. just tells my that you are one of those people unwilling to accept any other path than what you feel is 'right'. With only 500kb uplink speed (yeah, I'm on a tight budger) backing up several terabytes of data to the cloud is not an option. And I am not 'constantly' backing up my system. Once a week is more than adequate. And as far as restoring backups go, I am an IT professional that has been doing things like that longer than you have probably been alive. If so I apologize, and ask that the content of the reply by used, and disregard who it was replied to. |
