I have done this with WinBatch, though not on W10 (who would ever use W10,
given the choice?). You write a little script that moves the mouse every
X period of time. It kills the screensaver.

Presumably, it would also kill the hibernation timer.

The only problem with investigating control strategies
*while* the machine is doing the thing you want to protect,
is the possibility the method used will screw up.

Using "powercfg /h off" will definitely stop hibernation.
I don't know about sleep though. On my laptop, I don't do that,
because of the risk I walk away and something drains the
battery and needs to hibernate when the battery is flat.

cmd prompt as administrator then run this:

powercfg.exe /h off

Exit cmd prompt and the problem is solved.

I have the opposite problem.
I want nothing ( except a global hotkey ) to wake my monitor.

The only solutions I've found, so far,
put my monitor back to sleep AFTER it wakes up,

which causes my monitor to displaying an annoyingly bright
"no signal" message, 15 seconds later, hurting my eyes.

I don't know what you're trying to do, but there are
some articles out there on modifying the screen power
states and what displays or locks happen.

https://superuser.com/questions/1214...itor-turns-off

https://www.winhelponline.com/blog/l...-windows-10-8/

You would think with the complexity of the state diagram
for that stuff, they'd have a better GUI method for
allowing the user to program what happens.

I've known that I'm better off using XP, but I never imagined
that one of XP/Vista/7's advantages over 10 would be that they
can be turned on and off.

Well, hibernate is set to never, yet it hibernates automatically after
some hours. it doesn't sleep, it hibernates. I don't want to disable sleep.

Hitting the same (global) hotkey ( assigned to a mouse button )

I don't know about Win10, but this works in WinXP/7:

System - Hardware - Device Manager.
Expand "Mice and other pointing devices".
Right-click the mouse listed and click Properties.
Under Power Management, deselect "Allow this device to bring
computer out of standby"

Oddly, the Power Management tab doesn't show on
my system, but it did show when I unchecked the box!
I do that with all my computers because it's so easy
to activate the mouse. Even a big truck driving by can
sometimes do it.

Looking at Regedit and Regmon, it appears the setting
is WaitWakeEnabled. The path is confusing.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\H ID
\[device ID]\Device Parameters

WaitWakeEnabled 1 to enable. 0 to disable.

There could be several Device ID keys, depending on hardware
installed over time. But mouse should be under HID. You could
also try a search for that value name.
