Space problems?
Had problems earlier this morning:
MS Word wouldn't print a document. Said not enough disk space or memory. System has 49 G free space on drive C and uses 2 G of RAM. Can't recall this happening before. Only running my usual Eudora and Firefox 4 tabs. Tried removing one tab, no help. Also was running Kaspersky doing daily update of databases and Quick and Rootkit scans of disk. Tried printing during time between Kaspersky operations. No help. Tried printing an email from Gmail. Failed. Said there was a 'popup' doing something I don't recall. What's a popup? AFAIK not using any. All these relating to an email I was trying to print. Finally printed it bu pasting it into Notepad. What's going on? TIA -- I love a good meal! That's why I don't cook. |

(Normally, it means a window that appears unexpectedly, as they do to tell you when an error occurs, for example, or for various irritating reasons when using a web browser. But the word can have many meanings.) All these relating to an email I was trying to print. Finally printed Why were you trying to print the email in Word anyway? Or do you mean it was a Word attachment to an email? If that, and you're using Eudora (good software! But somewhat old ...) then at an outside guess, maybe Eudora has some buffer size that was way bigger than anyone thought would be needed, but struggles with a modern Word document, especially the printing thereof, which does require a lot of memory. You could prove (?) this hypothesis by saving the attachment to disc, then printing it from Word from outside Eudora (even with Eudora not open). it bu pasting it into Notepad. What's going on? TIA Rule #1 Have you tried turning it off and on again? (Reboot or shutdown and power on) It's amazing how many problems it fixes JT +1. Or closing and reopening Word; though if Word is being opened from within Eudora, that might not work anyway. If it's opening in Word because it's HTML, then Word is rubbish at HTML anyway; I don't know if Eudora has its own list of "what do I use to open xxx files" or uses the default Windows ones, but if it does have its own, and there's an entry for HTML files that's set to Word, change it to your browser of choice. (I assume your Windows default for HTML files is your browser rather than Word.) If ... because it's RTF (rich text format), then I think WordPad will do it fine. And you will still have WordPad, even if you've installed Word - just the latter will have taken over lots of defaults. -- J. P. Gilliver.
