Upgrading Alienware Aurora R3 to Win 10
I posted this in the Win 10 group as well - no complaints please, I wasn't
sure where people would look for the information. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dell announced that the R3 was not officially supported on Win 10, but many have gone ahead anyway. I did. After a lot of googling the upgrade worked, so if there are other R3 owners here take heart.. The problem everybody ran into had to do with the restarts that occur during installation. The machine would restart but then hang during boot. It turns out to be a USB3 driver issue. The workaround is to babysit the installation process and whenever it performs a soft reset/restart to turn off the power. Upon turning it back on the machine comes up and boots normally. Once the upgrade completes, there is a driver to install that works, as well as an Intel chipset driver which may or may not be necessary. I couldn't verify that. I have so far resisted the urge to reclaim some space by cleaning up the installation files. I'll give it a week and then pull the trigger. So far, so good. I have not yet found an app that does not work ok. Jason |
