When is the last day to free upgrade from Vista or 7 to Win10?

My comment was slightly in jest, but I can certainly see how that could be missed if you think that more time would result in more takers. I don't think so since it has been made obvious that they were trying to shove it down our throats and the reluctance is likely to persist even if people are given more time to comply with the demand to upgrade to Windows 10. --- more cheekiness I'm afraid ---^ There seems to be some feeling, that the Win10 campaign is somehow dynamic, and Nadella runs around with a whip, getting the staff to think up "new attacks". And that at the last minute, they make program changes. The program was designed well in advance. And behavioral scientists reviewed it before deployment. Everything they've done, was done with "forward planning", including that last full screen message telling you that time is running out (delivered as a security update to Windows 7 users). All of this was planned long ago. The only part they cannot control, is when their developers finish features for the OS. And it's a simple matter to turf content and deliver it at a later date, if any content doesn't "hit the gate". This is why, when cumulative updates came in for 10586 after release, such ancient time stamps were on the delivered files. There was a pile of stuff that didn't hit the gate for July29,2015 and it was pushed later. Their plan is to stop the program on July 29,2016, and I believe they will follow that plan. To the letter. Pushing the Anniversary Edition to Aug.2, 2016, allows a "Big Announcement" between July29 and Aug2. And I have no idea what the next step in their "business plan" is. No idea at all. Nothing has been telegraphed. No leaks. Paul |

I can say that if they were able to extend in scope (rather than date) to include Vista (which isn't all that different from Windows 7) they would get at least one more taker. |

Either way, you can download and install every update, (if you want to). Those apps prevent the upgrade to Win 10. I use GWX Control Panel, too. Somehow, after a while, windows updates did not download. Looking a bit deeper, I see that the Windows Update service is stopping (and hung on this). Also, I don't know what "broken" means, but I assume you can still use XP if you want to, by simply fixing the broken system. Plenty of others still use XP. Hardware failure months ago. The unit is already tossed. Sincerely, Gene Wirchenko |

I did not realise quite how happy until I switched over to the Windows 7 system I had on my desk and got bit by it in a number of ways. Sincerely, Gene Wirchenko |
