Need BlueTooth driver, will this do?
Actually using Vista, which is like 7.
All the webpages I find are about installing a device and making it comunicate with a computer or other thing (host?), but none are about installing it on the computer in the first place. I need a BlueTooth driver, will this do? At least I thought I did. I had yellow triangles in Device Manager in front of three lines called "peripheral bluetooth" in Ports, and I couldnt' get rid of them, but a page I found (url available) said the author solved his problem by "choosing one from the list", Ports/Microsoft/Com over Bluetooth, something like that. I did that and the yellow triangles went away and it says they are working! As com6 and com7. There was a com5 but maybe it went away when I turned the headset off? I can reinstall those drivers if I shoulnd't have installed them. And the Control Panel/Bluetooth window now will say that my new bluetooth headset is "in use" when I turn it on, so I must have made progress. But I can't hear anything!! So I figured, my webradio program (RadioMaximus) must not know about Bluetooth, but I know that Skype does. I started Skype and googled and learned that under Options/Audio, Bluetooth should be an option for Mike, Speakers, and Ringer, but it's in none of those. So that is the problem now. Background: I bought what seemed like a rather cheap bluetooth headset $29 and it came today (4 days ago), I paired it easily, and though Vista, which is similar to win7, requests the CD to install the driver, no CD came with the headset. The headset is by SHareconn, whose website and product line doesn't look so shabby after all, and they repeatedly request support questions, and I'll do that**, but I wanted to get your opinions just in case. **I did that Saturday night, but havent' heard back yet, Wednesday night, so "in case" seems to have happened. SHareconn didn't have listed a driver to dl, but googling bluetooth driver download found me two, one from http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth 4th line down, Windows 7 and Vista, 32 bit. (That's me!) The other was proferred in a thread on sevenforum.com, http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/9...h-headset.html http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/wir...21_5503200.zip , from ASUS, it seems. The formats are very different, The second is 99.9% an .exe file, 125 megs. The first has 300+ files and a .cab file, totalling about 180Megs. Is one of these what I want? Or do I have to get it from Shareconn. Should I delete what I did install, com over bluetooth before I install one of the two above? Is there are better newsgroup for this topic. ;-) |

So I figured, my webradio program (RadioMaximus) must not know about Bluetooth See if there is an Audio icon in the tray. I didn't think of that. If I right click on the Speaker, one of the options is Sounds, and I went there and there was an image of a headset and an entry for the headset, and it said Unplugged. So I turned on the headset, and then it said connected, but since I wasn't going to use it, I turned it off and the whole entry disappeared, And turning the headset back on didn't bring it back! Since then I've rebooted and maybe that helped, and just now it was there again, and I looked in the settings for RadioMaxiums and it had an entry for bluetooth!! So I started the headset, checked the Bluetooth box in RadioMax, which unchecked the speaker box, and clicked okay, but nothing changed. Meanwhile, well after I turned the headset on, 60 or 90 seconds I think, I got it on my ear, and it said distinctly, "onnected". Probably no leading c, but still. But I couldn't hear anything else so I turned the volume up. Then I went back to Sounds and I clicked Test and it was sooo loud in my hear, but no music. Then I made it the default, no change. But just now the tones I get when email comes sounded in my ear. If the computer were not sluggish, I'd start Skype and see if it's there, but I think it will be and that I had enough progress for one day. Maybe if I closed Radio Max and restarted, the music would come out of hte headset. Although come to think of it, it might be bettter to have the music come out of the speakers and turn that sound off separately and save the headset for Skype, I think I"m close to done. Unless turning off the headset makes the entry disappear again. No, it just greyed it and listed it as Not Plugged In, put in a red down-pointing arrow, and changed the default to the speakers. That's very good. Yes, unless it goes bad, I'm probalby done here. Now I have to pair it with the phone. I reread the instructions and they're in Chinglish, and the second device is more complicated than t he first one. Maybe I'll look for instructions on the web that might work with mine. I'm annoyed that Shareconn has had 4 days but didn't write. Maybe they will, but still. And I don't know battery life, but for $29 seems pretty good. There were a lot of models between 22 and 29, and one much cheaper, plus Plantronics at 60 and others over 100. Since I barely know anyone and barely make any calls, 29 is enough, though I'm hoping to go abroad for 2 months this winter, and talk to my friend for 90 minutes 3 days a week like I do here. It will be 11PM where I am so I won't be walking around, which this would be really good for, but maybe it's good. It's a gadget, that's the important thing. Thanks for your help. Fiddle around with the audio settings, such that the Bluetooth audio is used as an output. Then you just might hear sound. There are some pictures here, of various things. I'll read the thing again. Those poor people with XP, 7, 8 and 10 just have to limp by without any sound. One think I didn' tmention in the answer to Paul is that it never did make me put in a number, like 0000 or 1234. That's good because I don't know where I would have put it. Also the thing is light and comfortable. I don't know how well the mike works yet, and if it is noise-isolating, whatever that is, like the title of the page say or noise cancelling like it says somewhere else. But I'm usually inside in the quiet. It's my friend whose walking with much wind and some traffic noises. BTW, we talk 4 hours a week but I've only seen her twice this year, for short periods, and she only lives 8 miles away. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...=vs.90%29.aspx I read this too. Also for Vista. I didnt think it would be different from 7 but may it is. |

There's a Bluetooth icon, but that's just threre because there are bluetooth things in the list of 3, none of which show as on. Fiddle around with the audio settings, such that the Bluetooth audio is used as an output. But I opened Sound and under Speakers and Realtek Digital Output was the headset. That's great. I didn't think to look there. It was listed as unplugged, so I turned it on and it was listed as connected. So I turned it off and the entry disappeared and I can't get it back. (have to read the instructions again about getting connected) But this is still progress. Then you just might hear sound. There are some pictures here, of various things.
