GMail IMap

I delete eMails in All Mail, Incoming, Sent and important.

eMails are deleted except in All Mail.

They come back.

Why ?

I want those deleted because they take time downloading and take up
space. There are lots and they are each large.

How do I delete ?

Post this in mozilla.support.thunderbird. You'll get better help maybe.

That sounds like you think deleting them will save on the download time.

That sounds like you think it won't (-:

Are _all_ your machines set to IMAP?

(And I'd second the advice to ask in the Thunderbird newsgroup.)

There are helpful articles out there.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Minimize_t...e_of_a_profile

When it comes to the "All Mail" and "All Mail.msf", you have
to be careful of the order the operations are done in.

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewto...f=39&t=3025919

"Lots of things can be done in either order.

This isn't one, you need to be *really careful* that
Thunderbird is not going to synchronize the 'all mail'
folder anymore before you get rid of that file."

There are supposed to be controls for synchronization
with the IMAP account. But stuff like this doesn't always
work. The "All Mail" folder is special, in that it contains
what appears to be an alias to mails in individual folders.
If you used the webmail interface and deleted the contents
of "All Mail", then chances are the mail would also disappear
from the real folder it is held in.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...ynchronization

*******

Summary: The main message is, it's dangerous to play with
this one, and you really need to talk to someone
who has done it.

I'd need a new throwaway account to test this. Or, my own
IMAP server, so if I screw up, it doesn't hurt any real
accounts.
