C:\Drivers
It seems that there is always a C:\Drivers directory, and it usually contains files relating to
hardware not on the system. Is this directory necessary? -- croy |

I would guess that perhaps you're using an OEM version of Windows, and that directory came from the OEM. I'm using off-the-shelf (non-OEM) Windows 7 Ultimate, and I do *not* have a \Drivers directory. The safe route is to leave it alone, but if it really bothers you, burn it to CD/DVD before you delete it. -- Come on, let's go. I've got a sister to murder. |

Hi Cory, Not only leave it alone, but make a backup up of it. You will need these drivers if you ever have to wipe and reinstall. Put your backup of this directory in storage next to your ISO of your OS. If you want to get rid of anything, get rid of Bing. -T |

While I don't particularly want them there, I can't see they're causing much of a problem - there certainly isn't a root folder. -- J. P. Gilliver. Personally I would use a program to back up all of the drivers and store them on disc/USB, and delete that folder. |

I personally have never seen them not to be and I have worked on several hundreds Windows machines. Personally I would use a program to back up all of the drivers and store them on disc/USB, and delete that folder. I would not delete them for two reasons: 1) they are awfully handy to have around if you need to reinstall a driver 2) having duplicated avoids disasters.
