SFC /Scannow results in "Insert your Windows XP Professional C
Debbie,
If you Google i386 folder, you will see loads of problems and answers referring to that folder. Hope this is quicker for you. "Roger" ======================== =================== "Debbie Graham" wrote in message ... Ok I found the link in one of the messages and tried it. The one file did have professional in it and the other had home. I ran file checker just to see what comes up and it comes up home now, but I still would like to know why putting the i386 folder in another drive still prompts me to insert cd? Debbie I'm having a problem like that too but the other thing is I don't have win xp pro, I have home. Why would it ask me for pro? I also tried to put the i386 folder in another drive to use without the cd and it still asks for the cd. I haven't been able to use the file checker ever since I used a registry cleaner and I'm sure I restored it but it still doesn't work. I even restored my whole drive from my backups and it still asks for pro cd. Debbie "Roger" wrote: Hi, ref your subject heading I had similar problems when using the run command, had box showing retry button, when pressed it would come on again not recognizing xp disc. My son-in-law stated if I continually hit the retry button the files would load, and they did the blue bar eventually built up. It took an hour but all files were taken from disc. and all was ok. Hi, Jack I read the contents of the link and it seems to apply to XP Home edition, I have the XP Professional edition with SP 2. If I remove Professional from these files I would be concerned. SFC /Scannow results in "Insert your Windows XP Professional C
Hi, Nass I have the troublesome DLL's and I have listed them below. Microsoft
Article 909059 appears to indicate that the below are not needed by XP Professional Media Edition. So , I believe I'm ok in ignoring them during the SFC Scan. Thanks in advance for your assistance.! C:\windows\ehome\ko\ehepgdat.resources.dll C:\windows\ehome\ja\ehepgdat.resources.dll C:\windows\ehome\fr\ehepgdat.resources.dll C:\windows\ehome\de\ehepgdat.resources.dll C:\windows\ehome\zh-chs\ehepgdat.resources.dll -- John R. "nass" wrote: Hi John, Yes you need to be careful if you have IE7 in doing a Repair/Install, since your CD will have IE6 or pre-IE6 (5.5) version you may have problems doing the Repair install. If you can pin point these DLLs may we can help, and better place to start tracing this issue is the Event viewer, if it applications it will show, if it hardware it will show in the log. Try the System File checker (SFC) again but also try to change the Registry to point to the CD instead of the C:\ and see if it will mange to repair the DLLs. HTH. Good luck. Let us know. Regards, nass "John" wrote: Good Morning Nass, to answer your question, The reason I felt the need to run the SFC program was due to my Laptop "Blue Screening" after the installation of HP Software for my new Photosmart Printer C7180, I have tried everything to prevent my system from crashing including contacting HP for support and they recommended that I resolve these DLL problems. Once resolved, they felt that there software should not cause any problems. I find it hard to believe that these un-identified DLL's could be the exact ones used by there software, but none the less I thought there was no harm in getting them resolved anyway. To answer you second question, Yes I completely checked my machine for spyware utilizing Spysweeper by Webroot as well as Counterspy. Also, I checked for viruses using McAfee with the lastest definitions, so I believe my machine is clean. Also, since I have Explorer 7 installed, it's going to me messy doing the Repair Installation. I must find a way to identify these problem dlls via a log or trace and replace mannually from the I386 folder on the CD the problem files on the drive. Thanks in advance! -- John R.
