I fully understand your predicament. Given the circumstances I would
take the computer to my computer supplier ( a small shop) and ask them
to resolve the problem. A home user does not have the resources to check
out hardware like power supply units, motherboards etc. I would be
interested to know what they find.

Check your modem software against the list in this link. It can
happen,

more often than one would expect, that the software CD coming with
hardware is already out of date when you make your purchase.

Hello Gerry
Thank you for your post, unfortuately at the moment I cannot act on
any of your help and advise, as tnight when i turned the pc on it
started to load, got to the desktop and then I got a blue screen
with the following...

'A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to
prevent damage to your computer.
KERNEL-DATA-INPAGE-ERROR

Hi Gerry,
Will keep you posted on what happens, thank you for your help, it is much appreciated.

Default PC takes hour to load

My advice is to back up or copy any important files and folders asap , this
happened to me and I had to replace my harddrive and lost everything! Most
upsetting!

My pc has suddenly started to go really slow. It takes 50 minutes from
switch on to get to desktop. When I click on something on desktop it
takes approx 5 miutes to open, and I can only open one thing at a time,
so i have to choose carefully, as they wont close without using cntrl,
alt, del.
I tried to run anti virus today but it was going so slowly it took 7
1/2 hours, then I stopped it, but up till then it hadnt found any
threats.
I tried to do disc clean up, to delete temp files etc, but even that
took 1 1/2 hours before crashing.
Free space is 71%
I havent installed anything before this started happening, and Im not
sure what I can do to find any cause.
I would be very greatful for any advise.
Thanks
Lel

After lots of help, and trying to sort it, I took it to the computer shop and had to have a new hard drive!!!! All better now, thankfully.
Thanks
