Default Task Scheduler wont start

I was going into norton antivirus to check my settings and noticed that auto update was disabled, however, clicking enable does nothing. When I went into scheduler to see what the problem is I recieve errors stating Task scheduler is not started. In comput
er managment I try to start the service but it would not start. When I checked the log file, the most recent listing was this:

"Task Scheduler Service"
Started at 4/4/2004 10:49:47 AM
"Task Scheduler Service" 4/4/2004 10:49:47 AM ** Error **
A failure occurred during service initialization.
The specific error is:
0x800706b8: The endpoint cannot be created.
"Task Scheduler Service"
Exited at 4/4/2004 10:49:48 AM

Additionally, this error has happened many, many, many times in the log. I have tried repairing Windows core files with no help, also did a re-install/upgrade of XP also no help.... Any ideas!!
