WIN XP SP2 active X controls, plug ins, add ins, downloading s
Hi Terri and Everyone,
I was wondering if you got the problem fixed because I'm having the same problem. In fact, my job depends on using this particular Active X control and they have given me 10 days to fix it or I'm fired! They suggest I uninstall SP2 and reinstall it! What a pain! I'm hoping something else will work. I'd do it if I KNEW it would work. So, please, let me know if you solved this problem. Thanx! Jana "tbenton" wrote: Thanks Alex...did all that and stil can't get any activeX control option on info bar. The info bar does not even show up when I try to download these little pieces of software. Its maddening. Terri "Alex Nichol" wrote: Terri Benton wrote: Had smooth install of SP2. Having big issues with security and cannot find answers anywhere on Microsoft and getting really frustrated. Used all resources on MS and no help. I need to enable add -ons, plug ins and Active X controls for many functions I use on many web sites regardless of security issues. Could not get even Office update to work and Office discussion page tells me I need Active X control (not on info bar..on page itself in large blue letters) to use discussion group (!!). The security level set by default in IE has been tightened up. In Internet Options - Security page, either move selected sites to the Trusted Zone, or in Internet zone click Custom and adjust specific settings (Don't try to set its Default to lower security; it won't let you) -- Alex Nichol MS MVP (Windows Technologies) Bournemouth, U.K. (remove the D8 bit) |

All,
I have not solved the problem and it irritates me. It seems QED but apparently not! I will NOT reinstall XP since there are only a couple of sites that I cannot download benign little programs. I am not sure that would fix it anyway. Could not help but giggle over the 'job' requirement but I certainly understand the situation since I did PC support before I retired. Hi "Puter Friends,
Well, lo and behold! the rumors and not rumors! My problem was Norton Internet Security, a program that was installed on my Sony with Norton AV. Also, I uninstalled SP2 but don't think that was causing the problem. I'd like to thank you for your attempts to help me. Mz. Jazz PS Saved my job..Lordy lordy just in time!! "Mz. I am so happy you found your problem and still have a job...lol. I tried
disabling my AV, antispyware, firewall and so forth but still could not download the program that needed the Active X. Makes me so mad. We have to get all this protection from the 'baddies' and then cannot download benign software. Terri ------------ "Mz. Jazz" wrote: Hi "Puter Friends, Well, lo and behold! the rumors and not rumors!
