Is there a good group for firefox? It seems that software is becoming,
slowly but surely, a real piece of garbage.

TIA

Use Opera. It uses the same engine as Chrome but without Google's added
surveillance of the user.

mozilla.support.firefox

Can be reached through news.mozilla.org (no registration required).

BTW I'm guessing you're *not* the registered owner of 'domain.net'. This
goes against the terms of use of the newsserver you're using,
Eternal-September. You should use '.invalid' instead.

There are support newsgroups for all of Mozilla products at

news.mozilla.org

I have been using these newsgroup for a long time so can not remember
for sure but I believe there is a free registration.

Once you are registered the one I use is

mozilla.support.firefox

I don't know what version you use of Firefox, or your experience with
the complete Mozilla product line, But Thunderbird w/Lightning and
Firefox are becomnig a great set of programs for managing you complete
web presence. Thunderbird w/Lightning allows you to schedule task and
events, and send and recieve invitation to those events with the MS
product line.

You can not beat the price, Free.

I wasn't aware that "domain.net" was actually a domain name. I've been
using this for many years.

Thanks

FYI "invalid.net" is also a valid domain name [see below]. Use "domain.invalid".
IOW, use ".invalid" - ends with ".invalid"

| C:\nslookup -type=SOA invalid.net
|
| invalid.net
| primary name server = NS31.WORLDNIC.COM
| responsible mail addr = namehost.WORLDNIC.COM
| serial = 111100822
| refresh = 10800 (3 hours)
| retry = 3600 (1 hour)
| expire = 604800 (7 days)
| default TTL = 3600 (1 hour)

| $ whois invalid.net
|
|...
| Registrant Name: Invalid.net
| Registrant Organization: Invalid.net
| Registrant City: Portland
| Registrant State/Province: OR
| Registrant Postal Code: 97229
| Registrant Country: US

But s|b said ".invalid", not "invalid.".

To be compliant you should actually use "(whatever you like).invalid",
not "invalid.net".

But thanks for listening - not everyone is nice like that.

You can also try out Seamonkey if you like.

That's my "second browser". I keep one browser here, with
no Flash plugin at all in it. And the other browser has Flash,
but with Flash block, so I have control over what Flash
video runs. And that's why I have two browsers, for
that "extra degree of control". I usually surf with the
non-Flash browser, to avoid any Flash entanglements at all.
Only switching browsers if necessary.

http://www.seamonkey-project.org/

Seamonkey includes a "Composer" window, for cases
where you want to WYSIWYG-edit some HTML. So while
some browsers may offer "View Source" option, this
one includes the ability to edit what you see a bit
more sanely.

I don't know whether they do what you want, but here I moved from
Firefox to a combination of Pale Moon (like Firefox before it was
broken) and Opera 12 (the version before they broke it).
I have these on the task bar for instant opening/closing and have left
IE as the default browser so that url's in emails and newsgroups open
that and don't mess with the main browsers.

Try the Firefox QuickJava extension. You can put on/off buttons on the
toolbar for java, javascript, flash, silverlight, animated images,
images, cookies, css, and proxy. (You can pick and choose which
buttons you want, you don't have to have them all.)

At the rate I'm going, I may need a third browser that
can (somehow) fix those "mobile" sites. You got any
ideas how you can make the site formats change back
to the old desktop friendly format ? :-)

I mention that, because just today, cnn.com became
completely unusable, right before my eyes. I might as
well be looking at a news site... through a "coke bottle bottom".
I don't expect they make an add-on to fix stuff like that
(bad web coding).

Maybe I'm going to have to buy one of those screens
that is 5000 pixels wide. Just to keep up with this
madness.

Were you playing with your browser's User-Agent string, or was it caused by
something else? The site looks fine to me, but if they were having issues
they would have fixed it by now.

Even if the domain isn't registered (yet) or the tld doesn't exist, it's
best to end a made-up domain name with

..invalid

In your case it is something that the news admin explicitly asks in the
terms of use.

Anyway, tnx for changing it!
