Is there a way to set the default audio volume level for all new applications?
For example in my system, I've set the Device volume level to 50. This
resulted the volume levels for all new Applications that generate sounds are default to 50 as well. The problem is that some application sounds are just too loud including the Windows own System Sounds application. Logically, the Device volume level should be lowered. But this creates another problem, it limits the maximum volume level for all Applications. So my question is, is there a setting to set the default volume level for new application that isn't already registered in the volume mixer? A third party software solution is acceptable as long as it doesn't consume too much memory. |

Launch an audio application; SndVol.exe generally only shows settings for those applications that are running. In the audio application itself, set its volume to its maximum. Then set that applications volume to your desired setting in SndVol.exe. Repeat for other audio applications. -- David E. In the audio application itself, set its volume to its maximum. That's already been done. Another problem which I haven't mentioned earlier is that, not all applications are media players. So they don't have their own volume control. e.g. sounds that are generated directly by applications, which aren't registered as program events (as listed in the Sound control panel's Sounds tab). Then set that applications volume to your desired setting in SndVol.exe. This is what I'm try to find out how to automate. e.g. set that application volume level to half instead of maximum. Either automatically (right after new application is registered into volume mixer), or by setting a default volume level somewhere. |

I know of no way to do it automatically, but even if there is a way, you'll still end up going into mixer and adjusting it. I have my system volume set to 30%, and any apps that I adjust the volume on are anywhere from 4% to 20%; that's how much variation there is between different programs. So any automatic program is going to be nearly useless. -- SC Tom |
