KB839645
Dear Charlie I too have all the same updates and also having problems with my pc.Personnally I think it is their updates that have gone wrong , it`s not the first time. There was an update kb841911 that caused pc`s to slow to a crawl but I uninstalled it a
nd got my speed back. Has for Mr. Rocket well some of us know what to do for updates but logically when your pc goes through some updates and works then all of a sudden you get 5 new updates then the next day u see a change , you automatically go to the la st thing that changed it.So again I hope that Microsoft takes a few minutes to read these forums meanwhile we could uninstall the latest updates and see if it makes a difference.Good Luck "Charlie" wrote: See imbedded replies. Yesterday the "automatic Windows Update" I have (Dell 8200, Win XP Pro SP1) downloaded and installed the following updates: KB839645 KB839643 KB841873 KB840315 KB842773 Update V4 After the reboot my system became unstable, crashing during startup with the Blue Screen Of Death. I would only see the messages for a flash before it would automatically reboot again, but over the course of many reboots I managed to see three different STOP errors: STOP 8E STOP NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS STOP PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA I managed to start up in Safe mode and did a System Restore to the point before these six updates were installed, and I am stable again now. Thanks goodness for the System Restore feature! Good job there. I don't see any mechanism to report bugs in the Windows OS itself on your web site, so I hope you read these forums. Good luck finding the bugs. I'll turn off Automatic Update for now so I don't get "reinfected". I'd appreciate a followup note to know when Updates are safe to download again. Let me jump onto the bandwagon by telling my experience with winupdate version 5 - I foolishly installed onto my system. V5 showed me a number of hotfixes totalling around 2.9 MB but after starting the download it appeared that BETA Service Pak 2 had been marked for download as well without my consent (knowledge). Since those winupdates, once in progress, can NOT be cancelled (downloading) and no one of the MVP eggsperts had an idea how to stop this disaster, It was my joy to wipe my HD to come clean of the situation. I dearly hope MS takes my unpleasant lesson to built an download ABORT button into winupdate. Steve |
