have no sound on pc

lost operating system xp and now use a recovery disk to
obtain xp again and now I have no yahoo pool and no sound
through out my pc I do have sound over my headphones
don't make any sense to me, would much appreciate some of
your professiona assistance in this matter, thank you for
your time.
