Netscape Saved The Day ... but need Macrium Reflect Free for Home
Old Win P SP3 desktop that has not been run since 2009.
Started up just fine. Found it had Avast and Comodo on it so I wanted to delete. but tried the existing firefox and IE and Opera and none would render webpages except for a few that were viewable Google was there but when going to a site it was erroring out. I tried Netscape and after clearing out all the AOL crap I was able to get to a Firefox ESR download and install an updated Firefox. Thank you Netscape. Downloaded everything.exe, revo uninstaller and more. but Macrium Reflect Free does not check for the OS so got the wrong and latest one. So where is MR Free Home for Win XP 32 bit ? |

The stub downloader may give you 1849 or 1852. Version 7 has been out for maybe 10 months or so, but I don't know what OSes it supports. You can check and see if 6.3.xxxx is still available and maybe it will work. http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v...ls6.3.1852.htm http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v6/ReflectDLv6.exe === stub installer gives downloader 6.0.553.0, select a 32 bit or 64 bit version, plus WinPE5 or WinPE10 to make emergency boot CDs. v6.3.1849_reflect_setup_free_x86.exe 44,303,520 bytes === size estimates v6.3.1849_reflect_setup_free_x64.exe 46,645,904 bytes If you're on dialup, the program itself is 40MB and that will take a while. The WinPE part is used to make the essential emergency boot CD for doing restores to new hard drives, and it's a much larger download (could be 500 to 800MB). So if your mission is just to complete one backup right now, before it is too late say, then the 40MB main program, without ticking the WinPE5 or WinPE10 option is your best bet. If you're on broadband, then just accept the defaults. There have started being some problems with the WinPE downloads, in that Microsoft has changed something on their server, and the Macrium manifest of what to download might no longer line up. It occurs to me, that WinPE5 and WinPE10 might not even be options when running on WinXP. It might be WinPE3 or WinPE4, and the last time I tried, the WinPE4 download process wasn't working properly due to manifest problems. In such a situation, you could install Macrium on any computer running Win7 or Win10, make an emergency boot CD there, then go back to the WinXP machine and test. That's not an ideal solution, but maybe it's the only way to make your emergency CD. Without the emergency CD, if your main hard drive dies, there's no "OS" available to allow copying of the backup image on the external drive, back onto the new hard drive. Paul |
