Default Truecrypt no longer supported?

According to it's URL clients are advised to use BitLocker.
http://truecrypt.sourceforge.net/

To permanently dismount all my Truecrypted drives, I tried the method
suggested by Truecrypt via the ''System/Permanently decrypt
partition/drive'' but this does not work!!

Accordingly I had to decrypt with Truecrypt.
Transfer everything over to temp storage.
Format the truecrypted drive.
BitLocker that drive.
Transfer everything back!

It's taken one whole week.

I have survived to tell thee!

Peter

Which part of the process took the most time, and how much data were you
dealing with?

Most were 60GB USB3 thumb drives, and each took about 2Hr to BitLocker
a formatted drive. Transferring data to & from took about 1.5hr
each. A USB3 3TB HDD took about 5hr to transfer across 1TB jpg & mov
files to a holding HDD, then the newly-formatted 3TB took overnight to
BitLocker (very slow), and then about 5hr to transfer back the files
from the holding HDD. I processed 1 drive per day so as not to
becomes confused.

The BitLocker system works well though.

Thanks, all very interesting. The security doubts may not apply to me
because vast resources are required to crack codes. Anyway, I keep
the most of the encrypted drives in a remote location far away from
the computer. Peter
