Default How was the oscars event?

When I was younger I used to watch the show but yesterday I was sleepy and
went straight to bed. I'll be wishing to see The Theory of Everything. It's
a true story about a scientist who wants to find a general formula that
could calculate anything in the universe. But then the scientist gets a
desease and his wife leaves him.

Well that's depressing as all!

It's about Stephen Hawking.

I'm guessing two things:

1. Android99 (is that our Portuguese nymswitcher?) hasn't heard of
Stephen Hawking.

2. I'm also guessing that it's not *exactly* a true story. It *is*
Hollywood, after all.

I'm planning to see it eventually.

I'm also rereading Alan Turing: the enigma with an eye to seeing The
Imitation Game eventually. I can't imagine how the director made a movie
out of that book. It's long on math and short on personality, IMO...

I've seen both those films.
The one about Alan Turing is pitiful. But the one about Stephen Hawking,
although it's a very mundane story, is quite spell-binding; and all due
to Eddie Redmayne's portrayal.
Stephen Hawking is very well known here in the UK. About an hour into it
I was starting to believe that he was actually on film, so I switched
from following the story to paying special attention to Hawking, to see
if I could catch him out. But I didn't.
A well deserved Oscar.

Stephen Hawking has even done a couple of cameo appearances on "The Big
Bang Theory", a US TV sitcom.

So we learn that not only is he a formidable intellect and a man with
formidable courage, he has a great sense of humour.

Ugh! Are you trying to talk me out of being a Stephen Hawking fan? g

I once saw "The Big Bang Theory," and that was more than enough. I
hated it.

It's about Stephen Hawking.

Now that would have been a great piece of info to add to the review :-)

Suggestion: don't watch it again.

I'm teasing, of course. But it's true that mileage may vary without
penalty, even in matters of TV show taste :-)

Of course. And I should add that I greatly dislike most TV shows,
especially any that are called sitcoms. So there's nothing very
special about this one to me.

That's probably my favorite program currently on network TV.

That's a bit like saying 'Titanic' is about some boat that got into
difficulties.

But that is true, isn't it?

But really, I think your comment is cool.

Depressing.

I go to movies to ESCAPE reality. I have enough of my own problems. I
don't need to experience someone elses. And, then, there are those
blow-everything-up with no story movies. And zombies? Haven't there
been enough about them? And vampires? And werewolves? Seems the target
audience today is for 12 years old boys. Guess that's why I only see
about 1 or 2 movies a year. And 2 would be a lot!

So, I don't watch the Oscars. Or the Emmys. Or the Grammys. Or any
awards shows for that matter. And haven't since I was a child. (And
that's because my parents watched.) Boring. Since I don't watch enough
movies or TV, or listen to "pop" music for it to be relevant. Or for me
to even care. I have more important things to do.

Stef

As usual, the show was LON-N-N-G and tedius. Much rambling thank you
speeches to everyone on the planet, a few political campaign speeches
(e.g. "wage equality").
"best picture" was a goofy thing ---"Birdman".
J-lo's nearly topless "gown". MC in his underware, etc
